Work & Play

Unlike my first six weeks in Dublin (when it seemed natural updating my website almost every day), I have had to scramble for time to keep you all in the loop ever since I began my job at Another Avenue Productions!

Life in Ireland has been keeping me extremely busy, but a number of fantastic things are happening at the moment. Allow me to catch you up!

At work, we are in the beginning stages of developing a new, hit reality TV show. In the interest of my company, I can't reveal too much information... but let's just say that it's going to include a number of ex-sports stars from across the country!

What's more, my dad and brothers have come to visit me all the way from Ohio, New York, and Tennessee! It is SO nice having a little slice of home while abroad, especially over the Thanksgiving holiday. Pictures of their visit will be coming your way as soon as I copy them off of my brother's camera...

Wow! It is so hard to believe that my semester abroad is quickly coming to an end. Only two and a half weeks left until I board the plane, fly back home, and begin an entirely different adventure in the States. You will be excited to know that I already have 11+ appearances as Miss Lima Square Fair scheduled from December to March, with several other plans being finalized as well!

I will fill you in on all of the details in the near future, and I look forward to settling back into my regular website-updating routine as well. But for the time being, please bear with me patiently as I write online as often as possible in my last few weeks abroad. :)

Cheers!

Who Would Have Thought I'd Stumble Upon a Minnesota Star Tribune Newspaper in Dublin?

When I stopped by my favorite coffee shop today, "Insomnia", my eye caught a slightly outdated copy of the Star Tribune sprawled across one of the tables.

So what did I do?...I read it, of course, haha!

While flipping through the pages, I noticed an especially interesting article about our nation's obesity epidemic. It just so happens that this was my inspiration for today's Field Development article! :)

Have a look.

Glendalough Getaway

This past weekend was fantastic! I indulged in a little much-needed R&R in Glendalough, a tiny village situated an hour south of Dublin in the Wicklow Mountains.

Glendalough is THE place to visit if you like fishing, hiking, horseback riding, "the great outdoors", etc. I may not be much of an "outdoors-y" kind of gal myself, but I loved walking different mountain trails throughout The Wicklow Way. The only drawback was that it was extremely cold in the mountains and ended up raining the entire time I was there (this is not an exaggeration!), but the scenery was absolutely breath-taking...and I didn't mind staying inside and cozying by the fireplace one bit! :)

Here are a few photos:

On a different note, I have some exciting things to look forward to this week. As you know, interning at Another Avenue has turned out to be a really positive experience for me. On Thursday night, I will join my co-workers in covering the "Spirit of O2 Communications" corporate event! Hopefully I'll get the chance to sneak a few photos on my camera so I can better share my experience with you.

Until next time!~

A Tribute to my THIRD Grandma, Betty Gilmore

Saying goodbye to the ones we love is never an easy thing to do. Last Thursday, a wonderful woman (full of spirit and wit!) whom I've come to know as my "third grandma" passed away at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima, Ohio.

It's especially heartbreaking to lose Betty when I'm so far away from home; if only I could be there to pay my respects, reminisce on all of my favorite memories of her, honor her full life of 85 years, and support the members of my "second family", Anna and Beth.

Even if I had been home, it would not have been easier (by any means) to accept this loss. However, there is no denying that it would have meant the world to me to attend her burial mass at St. Rose Catholic Church, where she volunteered for years playing the organ so beautifully every Sunday.

I'll miss that.

And I'll miss not seeing Betty sitting in her "usual chair" next to the piano at the Gilmore household.

There will be plenty of fond memories to share after I return to the States on December 12th, especially as the holidays approach. I know my family and I will deeply miss Betty...but hey, she's already onto the next great adventure. We'll see her in heaven someday... :)

Week One: On the Job

I haven't been particularly attentive to my blog this past week; settling into my new work schedule has consumed the majority of my time (and energy!) as of late. I have to say, though: I LOVE MY JOB!

Another Avenue is an independent televsion production company with an office in both Dublin's City Centre and County Down in Northern Ireland. They specialize in broadcast programming, corporate/commercial production services, and graphic design. You may recognize some of their work in popular television advertisements, live events, and awards shows.

What, exactly, is my role in all of this (you might be wondering)?

Well, even on my first day, I was given the tremendous responsibility of speaking with both current and prospective clients. Just a sampling of the groups I have been corresponding with include L'Oréal, Google, VH1, Microsoft, Macintosh, and Merrill Lynch.

On Thursday, I went to O2 Corporate Headquarters (Ireland's largest communications service provider) and assisted in not only filming but also interviewing several executives about their latest products, upcoming initiatives, etc.

Other high points of my week included speaking with various film companies and radio stations, as well as being put in touch with the marketing director of Fianna Fáil, Ireland's most prominent political party!

As you can see, it's been an extremely hectic, although rewarding, week. I hope to blog more frequently now that I've become comfortable with my work schedule.

Tune in...I'll have Fitness articles coming your way soon! :)
